Essays on the history of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug — Ugra were prepared according to the program “Academic History of Ugra” and include materials from the meeting of the Editorial Board, a project with discussing problematic aspects of the history of the region, as well as articles on archeology, ethnography, most important events in Ugra development: from the birth of statehood among the peoples who lived in the north — west of Siberia, Russian penetration and development of Siberia, relationship and influence of Russians, Mansi and Khanty, measures to establish national autonomy and the emergence of woodworking, fishing and other industries, and since the early 60s of the XX century: center of Russian oil and gas industry, an important source of state budget of the Soviet Union and Russia.
